God is Listening

Preacher: Pastor Asher

Good morning, Church! Today, I want to talk to you about something foundational to our faith—the fact that God is listening. The title of today’s message is just that: “God is Listening.”

One of the greatest truths we hold as believers is that we serve a God who hears us. No matter who we are, where we are, or what we are going through, God is always attentive to the cries of His people. But sometimes, in our moments of doubt, fear, or silence, we wonder—is God listening?

I’m here to remind you today that God hears you. He hears your prayers, your cries, and even your silent whispers. You are never alone in your struggles because God is always there, listening with a heart full of love and compassion.

God’s Attentive Ear

In Psalm 34:17, the Bible gives us a powerful promise: “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles.” This verse is a beautiful reminder that whenever we call out to God, He listens. He is not distant or uninterested; He is near and attentive to every prayer we offer up.

Often, we feel as if our prayers are bouncing off the ceiling, unheard and unanswered. But I want to encourage you with this truth: God is always listening. The fact that you don’t see an immediate answer doesn’t mean He’s not paying attention. God is working behind the scenes in ways we can’t always understand.

In Jeremiah 29:12, God says, “Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.” This is His promise to us. When we come to Him in prayer, we can trust that He hears every word.

The Power of Crying Out to God

Throughout the Bible, we see numerous examples of God responding to the cries of His people. In Exodus 3:7, when the Israelites were suffering in Egypt, God said to Moses, “I have indeed seen the misery of My people… I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.” Not only did God hear their cries, but He was moved to act on their behalf.

God doesn’t just hear our prayers—He responds to them. It may not always be in the way we expect or in the timing we desire, but He is always faithful to answer. We are called to trust in His perfect plan and timing.

When the blind man, Bartimaeus, called out to Jesus in Mark 10:46-52, people around him told him to be quiet. But Bartimaeus cried out even louder, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” And what did Jesus do? He stopped and listened. Jesus called Bartimaeus to Him and healed him because He heard the cry of a heart full of faith.

Persistent Prayer: Keep Knocking

Sometimes, we may feel like God isn’t listening because we’ve been praying for something for a long time without seeing results. But Jesus encourages us to pray persistently. In Matthew 7:7, He tells us, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

God wants us to keep knocking. He delights in hearing from us, not because He needs us to convince Him, but because through persistent prayer, our faith is strengthened. Jesus gives the parable of the persistent widow in Luke 18:1-8 to remind us to always pray and never give up. The widow kept coming to the unjust judge, and because of her persistence, her request was granted. Jesus uses this parable to assure us that God, who is just and loving, will surely hear and answer His children who persist in prayer.

God Listens to Our Silent Prayers

Sometimes, the deepest prayers of our hearts are the ones we can’t even put into words. Have you ever been in a situation where your emotions or pain ran so deep that you couldn’t find the words to pray? Even in those moments, God hears the unspoken cries of our hearts.

Romans 8:26 tells us, “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” Even when we can’t form the words, the Holy Spirit prays on our behalf. This is a powerful reminder that God knows our hearts better than we do, and He listens to every silent plea.

Trusting God When He Seems Silent

There are times when we pray and it feels like God is silent. In these moments, it’s easy to feel discouraged or wonder if He’s really listening. But just because God is silent doesn’t mean He isn’t working.

In the story of Lazarus in John 11, we see that when Martha and Mary sent word to Jesus that their brother was dying, He didn’t respond immediately. From their perspective, it seemed like Jesus was silent like He wasn’t listening. But Jesus was preparing to do something greater than they could have imagined—He was planning to raise Lazarus from the dead. God’s delay was not His denial. He was working in ways that went beyond their understanding.

When God seems silent in our lives, we must continue to trust Him. His timing is perfect, and His plans for us are good. He is always listening, and He is always working for our good, even in silence.

God Hears Us When We Pray for Others

God also listens when we pray on behalf of others. 1 Timothy 2:1 urges us to offer prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving for all people. God calls us to stand in the gap for others, and He listens when we bring the needs of our family, friends, community, and nation before Him. Our prayers have the power to change circumstances and bring about God’s will in the lives of others.

When we pray for healing, provision, protection, or salvation for those around us, we can trust that God is hearing our prayers and moving on their behalf.

Conclusion: Rest in the Assurance that God is Listening

Church, today I want to remind you of this simple but profound truth: God is listening. Whether you’re crying out in desperation, whispering a prayer of gratitude, or silently yearning for His touch, He hears you. He is never too busy, distracted, or far away to listen to His children.

In every season—whether you feel like you’re on the mountaintop or walking through the valley—know that you serve a God who hears you. Keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep believing. God is listening, and He is faithful to answer.

Let’s close in prayer, resting in the assurance that God hears every word we speak and every cry of our hearts. Amen.
